What is swedana ?
Swedana is an Ayurvedic therapeutic modality aimed at promoting perspiration through controlled heat or steam exposure. The term “Swedana” is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Sweda,’ meaning sweat. This therapy is intended to facilitate the opening of the body’s channels (Srotas), enhance the elimination of metabolic waste products (ama), and alleviate musculoskeletal stiffness and discomfort by inducing sweating. Swedana is commonly employed as a preparatory procedure in conjunction with detoxification protocols such as Panchakarma, though it can also serve as an independent treatment modality for pain management and stress relief.
