Kati Basti is a specialized Ayurvedic therapy designed to provide relief from lower back pain and spinal disorders. It involves the retention of warm medicated oil over the lower back (lumbar-sacral region) within a boundary made of dough.

Procedure of Kati Basti:

1. Preperation: A circular ring is made using black gram flour (urad dal) or whole wheat dough and placed on the lower back.

2. Oil Selection: Warm, medicated oil is carefully poured into the dough reservoir.

3. Oil Retention: The warm oil remains in the reservoir for about 20-40 minutes, allowing deep penetration into the muscles, bones, and joints.

4. Massage & Heat Therapy: After the oil is removed, a gentle massage (Abhyanga) and mild heat therapy ( Swedana ) may be performed to enhance the therapeutic effects.
